Last weekend, I was invited to check out the grand opening of ZipZone’s new Adventure Park.

ZipZone is located on the northside of Columbus – just North of I-270, off of Route 23. Known for their Ziplining tours, ZipZone now has an Adventure Course.

What is an Adventure Course?

The Adventure Course is a self-guided ropes course and climbing course. It is for children and adults over the age of 7 and weighing less than 270 pounds. There are 5 “trails” and 60 challenges. The “trails” all start from a treehouse high up in the trees and each one is color coded based on the difficulty level. As you can see, some are only for adults or require an adult to accompany the child.

What to Expect

Driving from Columbus, you will want to allow yourself plenty of time to get the course. We were there on a weekend, but I imagine there could be a lot of traffic on a weekday. Also, if you’re coming from Columbus, you won’t be able to turn left on the road to the park, so you’ll need to drive past is and come back. Once you park, you will also want to allow some time to check-in before your start time.

You check-in at the main office and then head back to the shed to get your climbing gear. You will have received a barcode at check-in and that is used to get the gear and that’s when your 2 hour window starts. After you receive your gear, you will want to wait for the assistance of a staff member to put on the gear. In addition to harnesses, you’ll also receive gloves.

Once you’re geared up, you will head over to the practice area for instructions and to practice hooking yourself on and off of the ropes. You will want to pay close attention and ask any questions about how this works while you are in the practice area. Once you’re up in the course, the guides are on the ground and available to help, but it’s not the same as having them right there with you in a small tour group.

Once you’ve completed the practice area, you’re free to go to explore the various “trails” up in the trees at your own pace. There can be a maximum of 3 people on each platform and then just one person on each element, so once you’re up in the trees, you may experience a little bit of waiting – especially if you’re behind some children.

What to Wear

Be sure to wear workout capris and a short sleeved shirt. You do not want to wear shorts or a tank top. Since you’ll be wearing a harness, the capris are more comfortable, so it doesn’t chaff your legs. When you’re up in the trees, you’ll want to have sleeves, so the cables don’t hurt your arms.
