Now that winter is (hopefully) behind us, it’s the perfect time to get ready for summer. This winter was rough and we all deserve to be pampered. What better way to do that than with a massage!
Open Sky is a small day spa on 5th Avenue in Grandview. It’s in a tiny, unassuming building that I am sure I have driven by many times. I arrived about 15 minutes before my appointment and was greeted by their receptionist. The sitting area is tiny, but comfortable with a couple couches and magazines to read while you’re waiting. If it’s your first time there, they will have you fill out some basic information (as is standard at any spa) – with basic health information and if there are any areas that they should avoid.
When it was time for my appointment, I was promptly greeted by my massage therapist, Bryan Richardson. I was booked for the one hour Swedish Massage. Bryan was very friendly and took me back to the massage room. Being in such a tiny building, there is one room reserved for facials and another room for massages.
After showing me around, Bryan waited outside while I got settled and climbed onto the warm table with a roll for knee support. When Bryan returned, he adjusted the leg support, asked about my musical preferences and then got to work. He started at my head and then did arms, legs, and ended with my back. Having never had a full-body massage (only facials), I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was completely relaxed the entire time. The music was calming, the room was dim, and the bed area was warm and comfortable the entire time. Bryan was very skilled and seemed to do a good job of paying attention to what was needed. The hour went by in no time and I could have definitely stayed for at least an hour more!
In the past, one of the main deterrents to getting a massage has been the cost. It seems like massages typically run over $100. However, with 30 minute Swedish massage sessions starting at just $40 and an hour at $70, Open Sky Day Spa has options to meet any budget. They also offer Hot Stone Massages, Couple Massages, and many others (including a Prenatal Massage).
