Holiday Cards – A Few of My Favorites

With the holidays quickly approaching, I’m starting a new holiday series to share decorating ideas, gift ideas, traditions, and more!

This week I’m starting with one of my favorite holiday traditions – sending holiday greetings!

I know it seems like Christmas (if that’s what you celebrate) is a long way off, but it’s only about 7 weeks away and sending Christmas cards takes some planning.

Here’s what I usually do:

  1. Make a list of everyone you would like to send cards to (and add it up – you’ll need this number when you’re shopping)
  2. Pick out your greeting cards – it can be tricky because cards come in sets of 8, 10, or 12. This is why it’s helpful to have your number ahead of time and also to think about how flexible it is – are they some people you would eliminate?
  3. Finalize your list. Now that you have a definitive number of cards, make sure your list matches.
  4. Ask for addresses. I know it’s a bit awkward to email everyone for their address (and it kinda ruins the surprise), but you don’t have to get too specific.
  5. Let the letter-writing begin! Don’t wait too long to start this part – it can take some time to write an individualized greeting to each person, but that’s what makes it so special.
  6. Get them in the mail! I like to send mine in the final days of November. I like to wait until after Thanksgiving, but early enough so if they write me back, I’ll still get it before Christmas!
