St Julien Hotel Boulder
Lodging is a big part of any travel experience – a bad hotel can definitely ruin a vacation. We were so lucky to find hotels that we really enjoyed for our recent trip to Colorado.
Our first hotel was the St Julien Hotel & Spa in Boulder, Colorado and I can’t think of a more perfect location. It’s located about 5 minutes on foot from the Pearl St Mall (with lots of restaurants and shopping) and about 15 minutes on foot from Chautauqua Park, which I shared earlier this week.
The hotel is located on Canyon Road and 9th Street, so on one side of the hotel you can see the Flatirons. We could see the Flatirons from our room and I definitely felt like we had the best view in town. I know some people don’t really care about the mountains, but I’m in Boulder to see the Flatirons, so to wake up every morning and be able to see that view from bed felt extra special.
Our great experience at the St Julien started before we even arrived in Boulder. We travelled via train to Denver (which I’ll share more on later) and we had been on an 18 hour train journey when we arrived in Denver on our first morning. I called ahead to the St Julien to see if we could check in a bit early (I was hoping for noon), but we went straight to the hotel from the train station to leave our bags while we went to breakfast. When we returned from breakfast mid-morning, we were pleasantly surprised to find our bags waiting in our room. It was certainly a nice surprise and we were very grateful to get to be able to take a hot shower and get some R&R before exploring the town more.
Our room featured a full-sized door that opened to let in some fresh air and get even better views of the Flatirons. As you can see – on our first day in town we experienced cooler temperatures, a bit of fog and light rain.
Our room had a super comfy king bed, a desk area, a large flatscreen TV, plenty of snacks, and a lovely bathroom.
The bathroom had both a shower and a separate bathtub as well as a separate toilet area. I always find the separate toilet area to be nice- especially when travelling with another person.
The bathroom was stocked with amenities from their spa – Canyon Mint shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap, and even soaking salts. I took advantage of soaking in that large tub and then cozied up in the slippers and warm robe while enjoying some evening reading.
The St Julien also offers a nightly turndown service – complete with a little chocolate cookie. I never turn down chocolate and we loved the extra special touch.
As I mentioned, my favorite aspect of the hotel was the location. I absolutely loved the views (and watching the sunrise hit the Flatirons), but I also loved the walkability. We only used our car once the entire time we were in Boulder to go and visit some friends. Otherwise, we were able to walk everywhere. We enjoyed most of our meals over on Pearl St – we loved Snooze A.M. Eatery for breakfast and Centro for dinner (among others). We actually felt like there were too many good restaurants to try – we didn’t get to eat at all the ones we wanted to try!
On our last morning in town, we decided we would enjoy breakfast with a view right in our room! We ordered fresh orange juice, french toast, and some fruit. We enjoyed relaxing a bit longer in our robes and taking in that view.
All-in-all, I can’t think of a better town to visit in the fall or a better hotel to stay in while visiting Boulder. Needless to say, we loved our time at the St Julien and will definitely be back when the opportunity arises.
