Hey friends – Happy Monday! How was your weekend? In Ohio, we have been experiencing the strangest warm-streak. I’m certainly not complaining, but I think it broke the record for the warmest weather in February. It seemed like all of Columbus was out enjoying the weather this weekend.
One of my favorite things about the weekend is the opportunity to switch up the pace, slow down, and enjoy my own schedule. A few months ago, I started a 9-5 and I have found it to be a bit of an adjustment. I tend to a night owl, so waking up early is hard for me. One thing that has helped me a lot is creating an evening and a morning routine – to make everything run more smoothly. I know a lot of people struggle with getting enough rest/feeling rested/sleeping through the night, so maybe these will be helpful to you. I actually don’t struggle with sleeping, but I do struggle with getting enough sleep – I’m an 8 hours a night kind of gal, so when the whole week goes by without my 8 hours, I can feel pretty dazed by the weekend.
Here are some tips for the morning –
Get a full night’s sleep – whatever that means to you.
For me, I find that around 8 hours works for me right now. In college, I found 6 hours worked for me during the week and then I’d sleep more on the weekend or even stay up all night to finish an assignment – not anymore. With this goal, it all starts the night before. I use the iPhone bedtime function. It allows you to adjust the time when you would like to wake up and when you’d like to go to sleep and it tells you how many hours that is. Then it gives you a warning 30 minutes before that time, so you can get ready for bed. It sounds really elementary, but since I’m naturally a night owl, I’d like to stay up later than I can for a full 8 hours of sleep, so this works as a helpful reminder – I’d highly recommend it!
Start you day with water –
Ideally, I boil some water and pour it into a mug over some honey and I squeeze a quarter of a lemon into it. It’s perfect to warm you up on a chilly winter morning and it’s a slow, peaceful way to wakeup in the morning. If I’m not up for all of that, I just drink a glass of ice water. I make sure to have at least one glass of water before my morning coffee.
Lay out your clothes the night before –
This is another tip that may seem a little silly, but it’s one less thing to think about in the morning. I find that I think more clearly at night, so what takes a few minutes a night, takes much longer in the morning. I try to pull my full outfit and accessories the night before and hang it on the cute hook that I have in my closet.
Stick to tried and true beauty products –
This one may seem like a no-brainer, but Monday morning before work is not the time to try out that new mascara. I like to stick to a handful of makeup and beauty products that I know work well and will last all day. One of those is the Dove Advanced Care Deodorant. I’ve been using Dove Go Fresh deodorant in cucumber/green tea since college and love the light, clean scent. I recently upgraded to Dove Advanced Care in soothing chamomile. I love that it still feels light and fresh, but that it lasts up to 48 hours – perfect for that long road trip, that overnight flight abroad, or a hot yoga class at the end of a long workday.
Find a little time for you –
This last tip my favorite one, but also the one that most often gets neglected. When you follow first four tips above, however, you are more likely to find yourself with a few extra minutes. I like to read something inspirational or write in my journal. It helps me feel peaceful and ready for a busy day ahead.
