What Not to Miss in Little Italy Toronto

Little Italy Toronto

Last month, I went with my family up to Toronto, Ontario for a long weekend. It had been a while since I’d spent some time in the city, but there is certainly no shortage of things to do!

On our first day, my brother and I decided to head downtown to explore Little Italy. Little Italy is a district near downtown Toronto full of eateries, coffee shops, small markets, and interesting shops.

We got off the subway at the Bathurst station and tried to get out bearings. We started in what was called Mirvish Village. We took a pitstop at the Green Beanery. It was right across from a place called Honest Ed’s, which we did not explore, but found that it is known as one of Toronto’s landmarks – a mecca for bargain shopping.

We continued down Bathhurst St. until we reached College St. The main part of Little Italy is located along College between Bathurst and Ossington Ave.

We were fortunate in that the first restaurant we stopped to look at was where we ate and it was deliciousTrattoria Taverniti offered a wide range of authentic Italian dishes. While looking at the menu, we were greeted by a friendly Italian woman who we believe was the chef and we ended up eating outside on their sidewalk patio. My dish was a fresh pasta with seasonal vegetables and my brother enjoyed the vegetarian calzone. We noticed how fresh the pasta tasted in my dish and the calzone has a just-baked taste to it (as it should!) . It was certainly some of the best Italian food we had enjoyed in a long time. We also had a very friendly and helpful waitress.

In addition to the yummy food, we also enjoyed looking in the shops and seeing all of the flower and fruit markets.
