Whether picking up beauty products or shopping for clothes, I love to save a little extra.

I’m certainly not an extreme couponer, but I have some methods that I like to implement when I go shopping. I’ll be adding to that list a new app called CurrentC. They asked me to give their app a try as it is in its’ Beta stage here in Columbus.
CurrentC is a new mobile app that allows you to pay and use your loyalty cards and coupons/discounts with one swipe.

The app is fairly easy to use –
- You will start by adding your choice of payment to the app such as a credit or debit card, a checking account, or a gift card. I added all of my gift cards to the app.
- Next, you will want to add your loyalty cards. I added my CVS extra care card as well as my Target cartwheel card.
- Finally, I went through the offers in the app and “clipped” the ones that sounded good – like a free Frosty from Wendy’s.

Target:
The first store where I tried out the app was Target. As I was going into the store, I saw stickers on the door advertising CurrentC as a new way to pay, so I felt pretty good about using it there. I shopped for my items like I normally would and scanned them all into Cartwheel to check for savings and then added the relevant savings into Cartwheel. When it came time to checkout, instead of having the cashier scan the Cartwheel barcode and all of my gift cards, I just had her scan the single QR code in the CurrentC app – it applies the payment as well as the loyalty card all at once. It definitely speeds up the checkout!
CVS:
The next store where I used the app was CVS to pick up some beauty products. I shopped just as I normally would and checked for deals that I could add to my CVS ExtraCare card. When it came time to check it, it was really simple. Since I had already added my loyalty card and my gift card to the CurrentC app, I was able to just select the checkout button in the app and my unique paycode came up. I had the cashier scan it, and I was done – all my ExtraCare card discounts were applied at the same time – super easy!

Wendy’s:
The last place I tried the app was Wendy’s. However, I made the mistake of not checking the app first for locations and found out that the location I tried wasn’t accepting the app yet. So lesson learned – just click the locations button on the main screen to find where you can use it around you – each store icon will appear on the map.

Here are my tips for using CurrentC:
- Load all of your gift cards into the app before you get to the store
- Add all of your loyalty cards
- Check the app for locations that accept CurrentC before you head to the store
- Make sure you change your ‘default’ payment to the correct card. As I had several gift cards in the app, I needed to change my default payment to the card of the store where I was shopping
- ‘Clip’ any relevant offers while you’re still home, so you know what to look for in the store
