Brazil has many faces.
From a vibrant country celebrating Carnival to a gruesome place with violent stories, we may all see Brazil differently. However, as the 2014 World Cup Host and as the 2016 Olympic Host, there is no doubt that Brazil is a country to watch.
If you’re fortunate enough to live in Columbus, Ohio, you’re in luck because the Wexner Center for the Arts is showing Cruzamentos: Contemporary Art in Brazil.
Made possible by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Cruzamentos is an art show as varied as the country itself. The show features work from thirty-five contemporary artists working in various mediums with pieces portraying the joy and the hardship that is Brazil.
I saw the show on January 31st at the Preview Reception. The event gave attendees time to peruse the galleries and the night culminated in a dance celebration.
As no photos are allowed, I don’t have any images to show you, but I have highlighted five of my favorite pieces.
– Marcia Xavier Niermeyer Gaudi
