Buena Vista, Colorado
After our stop in Boulder, we drove about 3 hours into the mountains to a small town called Buena Vista situated at an elevation 7,965 feet. As you may remember, we stopped at the beautiful Red Rocks along the way.
BV (as the locals call it) offers all of the small-town charm and the sense of community that comes with a small town as well as offering a “big city” appeal. BV has quite a few great restaurants as well as some great hotel choices. In the summer, BV is a whitewater rafting hotspot – with the beautiful Arkansas River. It has also become a popular area for whitewater kayaking.
Having spent many summers in BV, we were surprised to find the town so active in early October. We arrived just at the end of their fall – so there were still some Aspen trees with leaves as well as many other yellow and green trees.
We spent our days outdoors. We loved the warm, bright, sunny days and the cooler nights. In addition to trying out quite a few of the restaurants, we time hiking near Cottonwood Lake as well as a quick day trip to a nearby town called Salida (also quite charming).
It was the perfect “pitstop” between 2 of the busier towns that we stayed in (and quite possibly our favorite stop!)
There is so much that I could write, but I think the images speak for themselves –
Stay tuned for the cute hotel where we stayed as well as some of the delicious places where we ate!
