I remember in high school when going to the movies was THE thing to do. Even in college, it seems like we went to the movies almost every week. Now that I’m older, it takes a little more to get me to the movie theater. Why struggle through crowds when I can wait a few more weeks and watch it in the comfort of my own home? Well, the new, updated AMC Theatres are here to change that with the AMC Dine-In Theatres.
A couple weeks ago I was invited to check out the recently remodeled AMC Dine-In Theatre at Easton Town Center. These new theatres offer a full-service dine-in option while you’re watching a movie. They also offer leather recliner chairs and reserved seating.
What’s On the Menu?
On the menu, you’ll find a variety of items from snacks to full meals. They have starters, salads, flatbreads, burgers, sandwiches, sweets, and typical movie theatre treats like popcorn and candy.
How Does it Work?
You are able to purchase your tickets for the movie as you normally would – you can buy them online while you’re at home, at the kiosk, or at the movie counter. However, be sure you select the option for Dine-In Theatres. I would recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time as there are fewer seats in these theatres and it is reserved seating, so you’ll want to make sure everyone in your group can sit together. We ended up at Easton a couple hours early for some errands and we got our tickets for a Saturday night just a couple hours before the movie without a problem.
Once you get to the actual movie, you’ll need to find your seats (as you have assigned seating) and then get comfortable. If you’d like to eat during the movie, you’ll want to go through the menu, so that you’re ready to order when the server comes around. I would suggest getting to the movie a little bit earlier than you normally would, so that you have plenty of time to locate your seat and pick some food from the menu. For regular movies, it’s fine to get there right when the previews start or some people even like to skip the previews and go straight to the movie, but you’ll want some extra time to order at the Dine-In Theatre. The server will take your order before the movie starts and then they’ll return with the drinks. The food will be ready about 30 minutes into the movie, so it will be delivered in the dark. As I said, we were there on a Saturday evening and the food only took about 30 minutes to come out, which is about standard for a typical restaurant. It was a little weird to eat in the dark, but each of us enjoyed our orders. If you’d like to order during the movie, there is a button you can press and they will come to your chair.
About 30 minutes before the movie is over, your server will return to take the dishes and bring your check. Since it functions like a restaurant, I would suggest that you expect to tip 15-20% on your order.
What Does it Cost?
As with all movies, the cost for the movie varies by time of day and day of the week. The food prices stay the same and the entrees were reasonably priced. You will find it to be more expensive than a regular movie, but it’s a nice way to enjoy the typical “dinner and a movie.”
Now that we have done the Dine-In experience, I don’t know if I would want to go to a regular movie again. I enjoyed the option of being able to order more than just popcorn and I also really enjoyed the recliner seats. The experience made the movies feel special again and I plan to be back soon.
